Freud was one of the most influential thinkers of the century, who contributed numerous theories to psychology. I admire Freud because of the intellect and profound thoughts he possessed while he was alive. Some may think his ideas and theories are absurd, explicit, or plain perverted, but i think that he has true, genuine insights to the human mind, because internally, we really are sick, selfish and most oftenly confused as he suggested. We are always in conflict (theory of inter-and-intrapersonal conflicts) and that makes us savages on the inside, there will always be a fight we have to face. I think that Freud is open minded, and because of this, he has established many theories which conservative and traditional psychologists would not dare to. What struck me about Freud's ideaologies are that they are most oftenly sexual in content. By explaining that Darwin stated "all species are made to survive, reproduce, and pass on their genes" enabled me to understand that humans really are born to procreate, a fact that i would not have believed if not supported by evidence. Other theories established by Freud such as the stages of development (again, extremely sexual in nature) as well as the model of personality (id, ego, superego) made me realize what a genius Freud must be to think about all this in the time he lived. The idea of the unconscious is also something i think is a rather intelligent theory. Because of Freud we are able to explain certain behaviors, like oral fixation, impulses, and why we dream the things we do. The main reason i am inspired by Freud is because of his boldness to do what society would condemn and look down upon, which is publish ideas that seem absurd, but is actually true. He dared to say that humans tend to think of the need to reproduce, and how there is a selfish drive ( the id) within us. These are things that society does not wish to hear, for it is a true portrayal of their real identities. I think i like Freud already, and i've never even met him yet =)
