In my subjective opinion, we do the things we do because we are taught by our environment during our childhood to grow and become who we are today. The things we are taught (like table manners) to the things we hear (Dad is not a decent father for filing divorce papers and not wanting custody) are what influences our thoughts and actions. It is a scientific fact that infants learn a large percentage of what they will learn in life at the age of one to two. i once read an autobiography in which a drug addict explored his childhood past and realized he underwent an untreated medical condition that was painful and excruciating, forcing him to hate his parents unreasonably and become the alcoholic and drug addict he is today.

To summerize that, humans are influenced by what is called the psychodynamic perspective, impelled by freud, which explains that childhood experiences are factors that influences us to become who we are today. however, i also think that the biological perspective applies, because genetics is a significant factor in our biological make up. If our family members are prone to depression, it is likey that we are too. However, the psychodynamic perspective, in my opinion, is truly what makes us who we are and forces us to behave and act the way we do. If we are raised in an environment of physical abuse, we are more likely to be violent. If our parents force us to eat, we are more likely to have an eating disorder. If our parents become our role models, we would want to grow up and be like them. If our father could not support the family, we'd seek a rich husband.

In conclusion, it is our environment, our childhood and past experiences that are the main factors forcing us to become who we are and act the way we do. After all, the past is a stepping stone to the future, without a past we are nothing.
